November 19 + 20: eating, eating then making a hat!

I took another easy day today, along with everyone else 🙂 After a quaint breakfast at wendys, we planned our day around lunch at maya bistro at maya beach. It’s a picture perfect place. Taxis were expensive so we went the really touristy route and rented gold carts, which are actually slower than bikes.20121121-083039.jpg

this looks a whole lot like fry bread from the Navajo-but it’s actually fry jacks- we sprinkled it with some cane sugar!

The next day I ran into the coconut man – he made a hat out of coconut leaves for my mom and saw me attempting to make one a couple days ago. He offered to teach me his art, it’s not everyday you get to learn something like this so I took up the offer. He climbed up a coconut tree (bare feet!!) and then we got started. This is the finished result! The one on the left is the one he made for my head, the right one is mine 🙂
